Detwiler Strong But Nats Silenced By Braves

VIERA, Fla. -- An error by shortstop Ian Desmond proved to be costly as the Nationals were blanked by the Braves, 5-0, at Space Coast Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning off left-hander Ross Detwiler. With two outs and Alex Gonzalez on second base, Freddie Freeman hit what looked like a routine grounder to Desmond at short. Desmond grabbed the ball and threw it past first baseman Michael Aubrey for his first error of the spring.

Detwiler ended up having a dominating performance, going three innings, allowing one unearned run on one hit and striking out five hitters. CONTINUE....
