Morgan's Comments Disappoint Riggleman

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Nationals manager Jim Riggleman expressed disappointment about the comments made by center fielder Nyjer Morgan recently.

On Friday, Morgan told MLB.com that he didn't expect to be with the Nationals by Opening Day. Morgan, who is on the trading block, is aware the Nationals plan to use Rick Ankiel as their Opening Day center fielder. Ankiel is expected to platoon with Jerry Hairston Jr., but the Nationals have yet to announce their intentions in center.

Morgan went into Spring Training as the starting center fielder, but he had to improve his offense against left-handed pitching, post a high on-base percentage, and play quality defense. Entering Saturday's action against the Astros, Morgan was 13-for-54 (.241) with a home run and five RBIs. Some people in the Nationals' organization believe Morgan has been no more than adequate defensively in center field. CONTINUE....
