Detwiler struggles early in loss to Phils

By Mike Radano / Special to MLB.com

PHILADELPHIA -- Ross Detwiler strolled into the clubhouse and asked for one moment of time before talking to the assembled media Friday night.

Given an extra moment, Detwiler removed a fortune cookie from its wrapper, broke the cookie open and read the inscription aloud.

"He who never makes mistakes never did anything worthy," the Nationals' rookie lefty read aloud.

That's good advice on a night Detwiler had plenty of mistakes to learn from.

Detwiler, who began his Major League career with a pair of solid starts against the Pirates and Orioles earlier this month, lasted just four innings and allowed five runs in Washington's 5-4 loss to Philadelphia (26-20) at Citizens Bank Park. The loss was the fourth straight for the Nationals (13-34) on this six-game road trip against National League East foes New York and Philadelphia.
