Image via WikipediaWASHINGTON -- The Nationals placed third baseman Ryan Zimmerman on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday because of an abdominal strain and recalled catcher Jesus Flores from Triple-A Syracuse.
Zimmerman, given the day off Sunday against the Mets after getting hurt on Saturday, has the same injury that he sustained during Spring Training. Jerry Hairston Jr. or Alex Cora could play third base for the next week or so.
Flores played in four games for Syracuse and went 2-for-13 (.154) in four games. Flores' promotion gives the Nationals three catchers, with Ivan Rodriguez and Wilson Ramos being the others. With Adam LaRoche hobbled by a left groin injury, Rodriguez most likely will see time at first base. Rodriguez played there on Sunday after LaRoche was hurt. CONTINUE....
