Willingham, Guzman out of action

By Bill Ladson / MLB.com

WASHINGTON -- Nationals manager Manny Acta was planning to start left fielder Josh Willingham on Wednesday night against Giants left-hander Randy Johnson and give Adam Dunn a break because he is hitting .239 against lefties and hasn't had a day off this season.

But Willingham couldn't play because of a bad stomach virus. There is no timetable as to when he will return to the lineup. Willingham has been one of the Nationals' best power hitters, slugging eight home runs in his past 24 games.

"Willingham is not doing too good," Acta said. "He has a virus that is affecting him. He is very weak. He is not in very good shape right now."

Shortstop Cristian Guzman also didn't play against Johnson because of a painful right thumb, which has bothered him for more than a week. It has prevented the switch-hitter from swinging from the right side of the plate.
