Series victory evades Nationals

WASHINGTON -- In his fourth career start and second against the Mets, Nationals rookie Craig Stammen suffered through early control problems, walked two batters, gave up three hits and threw two wild pitches in a five-run first inning.

The Nationals could not climb out of the hole.
