Nats Acquire Lefty Gorzelanny From Cubs

WASHINGTON -- The Nationals on Monday acquired left-hander Tom Gorzelanny from the Cubs for three Minor Leaguers, a source confirmed to MLB.com.

It's not known who the Minor Leaguers are, but the source said they are not top-tier prospects. The trade is pending a physical.

According to another source, Gorzelanny became expendable after the Cubs acquired right-hander Matt Garza in a trade with the Rays. CONTINUE....

Nationals Introduce First Baseman LaRoche

WASHINGTON -- The Nationals introduced first baseman Adam LaRoche at a Friday afternoon news conference at Nationals Park. He will wear uniform No. 25, which belonged to reliever Drew Storen this past season. Storen will now wear No. 22.

Stephen Strasburg Hopes To Throw Off Mound Soon

WASHINGTON -- Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg said Wednesday night that he is in "the best shape of my life," and he hopes to start throwing off a mound in a few weeks.

Strasburg is recovering from Tommy John surgery, and the Nationals are hoping he will pitch in a Major League game by the end of the 2011 season. CONTINUE....

Livan Likely To Get Nats' Opening Day Nod

WASHINGTON -- If the Nationals don't make significant moves to improve their starting pitching, Livan Hernandez will be their Opening Day starter, MLB.com has learned.

WASHINGTON -- Focusing on defense, the Nationals have agreed to terms on a two-year deal with free-agent first baseman Adam LaRoche, according to a baseball source. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but reports indicated that he will make $16 million over those two years.

An official announcement is expected to be made Thursday. The Nats have not confirmed that LaRoche will become a member of the club. CONTINUE....

LaRoche Negotiations 'Progressing' For Nats

WASHINGTON -- Talks between the Nationals and free-agent first baseman Adam LaRoche are "progressing," according to a baseball source. The negotiations are expected to continue sometime Monday.

The source said the two parties are not far apart on getting a deal done.

It was revealed on New Year's Eve that the Nationals have offered LaRoche a two-year deal. Terms of the offer were not disclosed. CONTINUE....
